The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Department of Pathology is seeking a Quality and Operational Improvement Manager/Director to organize, coordinate and manage all quality assurance, accreditation and compliance functions in the Department of Pathology, and to direct special function laboratories throughout UIHC to achieve continual regulatory compliance. Duties to include:
Direct the administrative and operational activities of the department Quality Assurance, Accreditation and Compliance service by assisting with the development and dissemination of policies, guidelines and forms and coordinate and administer departmental quality management programs.
Assist with the planning preparation and monitoring of the budget for the Quality Assurance Unit.
Serve in an advisory/leadership capacity in quality-related activities both in the Department of Pathology and as the representative from Pathology on pertinent task forces throughout the UIHC.
Manage the departmental quality assurance program to ensure compliance with accreditation/regulatory standards.
Manage/supervise staff on the quality team.
Design and develop quality assurance education and training needs for the Department of Pathology.

Master’s degree in a health care specialty or in a basic science from an accredited college or university with specialized training in laboratory medicine or an equivalent.
3-5 years’ experience in Quality Management, Compliance, or Regulatory oversight activities is required.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated commitment to promoting a diverse environment.
Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or National Certification Agency (NCA) or Specialty certification in Blood Bank (SBB)
Experience as a certified Quality Auditor by the American Society for Quality (ASQ) or as a Lead Auditor by the International Organizations for Standardization (ISO).
Experience working in an Academic Medical Center.
Experience as an assessor with the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) or experience as a member of an inspection team with the College of American Pathologists (CAP)
Prior experience with the College of American Pathologists (CAP) accreditation and inspection process and/or the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) compliance program oversight process and /or the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) blood and tissue manufacturing oversight process.
