Oversee Distribution Services daily operations by providing needed support to department staff, ensuring operational excellence and efficiency. Serve as subject matter expert for the Distribution Services department: Develop and sustain complete familiarity with all technical skills, software, departmental, quality and human resources policies and procedures and associated technical documents; develop and implement training plans for the Distribution Services Department; train Distribution Services associates according to We Are Blood training procedures; participate in the System Improvement Report/Customer Complaint process by investigating deviations, performing root cause analysis, and developing corrective actions; provide daily detailed inventory reports to Technical Services, Donor Services and Executive Management to communicate current and projected product inventory and requirements Administration of managerial functions: Oversee daily operations of the Distribution Services department; ensure compliance with all applicable industry, federal and organizational guidelines, protocols, policies, and procedures, including timely and appropriate reporting of all Worker’s Compensation exposures, illnesses, or injuries; ensure thorough and effective communication and dissemination of information to coworkers and staff; plan, justify and budget all staffing, equipment, repairs, supplies and expenditures for the department through review of monthly financials, employee output and workflow; monitor staff scheduling to ensure a lean environment and attainment of We Are Blood goals; optimize workflow and operations based on daily customer requirements; in conjunction with Technical Services Managers, Directors and VP, evaluate inventory and projections daily to ensure an adequate quantity and variety of blood products supply; ensure that adequate operational supply levels are maintained; project blood production usage/needs and establish both daily and long-range product levels for the We Are Blood service area; maintain appropriate inventory expiration; participate and lead resource sharing of blood products to ensure We Are Blood goals are met; Project management: Establish, implement and validate new processes, protocols, procedures and technologies; participate in Change Control Process in leadership and/or team member capacity; draft and revise SOPs; ensure that all equipment is maintained, validated, and repaired as needed or as required by standard operating procedure; execute or delegate special projects and other duties as assigned Employee development: Provide the best possible working environment for staff; interview and hire employees as necessary based on established and/or projected staffing requirements; investigate and rectify employee performance and/or behavioral inadequacies with timely counseling; conduct and assist with fair, effective, unbiased and factual performance appraisals of staff; identify individual and departmental training needs, oversee the performance of the departmental trainer, ensuring development of training plans, performance of training and maintenance of training documents is performed as required; review staff performance, productivity and goal achievement Record keeping: Review of departmental documentation daily to ensure accuracy and compliance; ensure department procedural documents are reviewed and updated in accordance with approved schedules and project management timelines; maintain staff attendance records, disciplinary action and related personnel documentation Organizational Leadership: Promote, meet and exceed customer service standards; develop and maintain constructive and cooperative intra and interdepartmental relationships; leverage knowledge, skills and relationships to develop and achieve departmental and organizational goals.

College degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or related field is required or a minimum of 4 years production and process control experience in a biologic and/or GMP environment, preferably in a blood center with a minimum of 4 years of supervisory/management experience may be used in lieu of degree. Knowledge of cGMP requirements and FDA regulations is required Ability to self-start, organize and prioritize under changing conditions, manage multiple projects, and handle stressful situations. Founded in 1951 as the Travis County Medical Society Blood Bank, it initially provided whole blood to four Austin Hospitals and a couple of rural clinics. Its mission is to safeguard the community’s gifts of blood and tissue with uncompromising quality and excellence in customer service.
