This Laboratory Section Chief position is an excellent opportunity for a lab professional to utilize their technical expertise and leadership skills. This role is responsible for providing day-to-day supervision of the Histocompatibility & Molecular Diagnostic Lab, including the technical, financial (preparing and managing department budget), and human resource operations including interviewing, performance evaluations, work assignments and disciplinary actions.
This individual will also be responsible for maintaining regulatory compliance, developing and maintaining policies and procedures, and serving as a liaison to laboratory administration, other hospital services, patients and clients.
The Histocompatibility Lab performs testing such as HLA typing, HLA antibody screening/identification, and lymphocyte crossmatch, supporting Solid Organ Transplant, Cardiac Transplant Surgery, & Stem Cell Transplant Program. The lab also provides essential testing for donor selection, evaluation of immunological risk, and diagnosis of rejection in various types of transplantation. In addition, the lab performs testing for platelet transfusion support and HLA typing for research/clinical laboratories.
The Molecular Diagnostic Lab performs genetic marker and genetic mutation testing.
Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science/Clinical Laboratory Science or an applicable Health Science Field that contained clinical laboratory rotations as part of the degree requirements.
5 years of Team Lead/Supervisory experience in a laboratory setting is required.
An advanced specialty professional certification in the clinical area of interest may substitute for the years of Team Lead Supervisory experience, but a minimum of 3 years of job related experience is required (Non-Team Lead/Supervisor role).
A Master’s degree in a Health Science field may substitute for one of the three years of job related experience.
An ASCP or other nationally recognized clinical laboratory certification is required.
Good communication, computer and customer service skills, expert technical knowledge and skills, and knowledge of applicable regulations required
Applicants trained outside of the United States must provide documentation of equivalency evaluation of their education and training to ensure it is equivalent to CLIA requirements. The equivalency evaluations will be performed by a nationally recognized organization. Ex: National Association Credential Evaluations Services, Inc. (NACES), the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE). The applicants is responsible for paying the cost of the equivalency evaluation.
