To work with and supervise other members of the laboratory team; to ensure optimal laboratory function by implementation of quality directed/cost effective procedures; to carry out clinic and laboratory policies; to coordinate and promote laboratory information system services.
Supervises and directs general laboratory functions at Confluence Health labs under the guidance of the Laboratory Manager and Laboratory Director.
Supervises staff scheduling and timecards.
If directed by the Laboratory Manager, is responsible to assist with or perform laboratory purchasing and inventory control.
Assists the Laboratory Director or Manager with conducting department performance evaluations; also assists Laboratory Director or Manager as requested with interviews and hires for available laboratory positions. Gives feedback to Lab Manager or Director concerning recommendations for disciplinary action and/or termination when necessary. The Laboratory Supervisor will be given permission to write performance reviews for the staff that they supervise. A Lab Manager or Lab Director must review and approve the content of the performance review prior to the supervisor administering the performance review to the staff member.
Maintains a liaison with Confluence Health Administration, other Confluence Health departments or committees, the physicians, and college MLT program coordinator.
Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by Laboratory Manager or Director, Administration or Pathologists.
Coordinates lab information duties and responsibilities with Lab Manager or Director, Confluence Health Information Resources personnel, and contracted information system vendor.
As directed by the Laboratory Manager or Laboratory Director, promotes laboratory services in the region and assists with delivery of lab information based on specific site needs.
Cultivates an effective team of department leads by frequent and open communication with each.
Conducts on-going evaluation of cost containment programs or cost-saving measures within the department as/if so directed by the Laboratory Manager or Laboratory Director.
Assists, as necessary, in addressing billing issues identified in department specific Epic work queues.
Updates laboratory requisition forms as needed.
Assists the Laboratory Manager or Laboratory Director in the coordination of bi-annual and mid cycle CAP inspections and responds to identified deficiencies to ensure continued accreditation. For satellite locations, is primarily responsible for the Department of Health inspections for the lab.
Assists the Lab Director or Lab Manager as directed in monitoring staff productivity as well as competency.
Adheres to all Confluence Health policies as stated in the Policy and Procedure manuals
Participates with other professional laboratory support organizations outside the facility to promote the laboratory employment field and to enhance/maintain current knowledge of the profession as a whole.

MT (ASCP) Registry or equivalent.
Four years relevant experience, two of which must be direct supervision.
Internal Candidates: Four years of relevant experience.
A general knowledge of lab procedures and lab quality control. Expected to assist with budgetary process as directed by Laboratory Manager or Laboratory Director.
Previous experience with lab certification agencies and positive management/communications skills with lab employees.
Excellent troubleshooting skills for personal/technical concerns is needed.
A bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or the Biological Sciences
Minimum of two years of supervisory or lead experience in a general practice laboratory setting.
Educational background which includes basic business courses.
Previous exposure to computerized word-processing and spreadsheet programs.
