Medical Technologist- Full time and part time opportunities available in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Microbiology, Flow Cytometry, and the Center for Integrated Diagnostics.
Day, evening and night shift
The Medical Technologist (MT) in the Lab performs routine and complex laboratory testing on a variety of specimens to provide vital information to for diagnostic and treatment purposes. The testing is performed with speed, precision and understanding of the theory behind tests. Performs routine and complex procedures utilizing complex instrumentation and manual methods
Operates and maintains laboratory equipment and instruments used in laboratory testing
Responsible for the accuracy, interpretation and reporting of results
Performs and keeps accurate records of equipment maintenance and quality control
Complies with regulatory and safety requirements
Refers problems and unusual results to appropriate personnel
Performs clerical and support services as needed. Responds to customer needs and requests
Participates in proficiency testing of unknowns and internal and external continuing education
Participates in continuing education programs related to laboratories
Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Medical Science, biological, chemical or physical science from an accredited college; and national certification, preferred.
Certification Eligible based on one year work experience plus degree
Certification eligible CLT at MGH with one year of performance evaluations which meet or exceed expectations and
Ten hours of documented continuing education in previous year within division, hospital or external programs
Knowledgeable regarding standard laboratory math and calculations needed to complete various work assignments.
Knowledge of making dilutions from stock solutions, proper handling procedure of chemicals and utilizing good laboratory techniques
Communicate effectively with all laboratory and hospital staff, patients and outside locations.
Read, write, comprehend English sufficiently to communicate with patients, laboratory or hospital staff and follow procedures.
Good attention to detail and written protocols
Must be organized and capable of following protocols and have ability to troubleshoot well.
Understands and practices standard safety and infection control procedures including standard precautions
Possess manual dexterity and visual accuracy.
Able to work under stress of time constraints and heavy workload demands requiring accuracy.
Able to complete initial and annual competencies successfully
Ability to work in conjunction with other laboratory staff to gain skills and experience in a variety of duties
Ability to learn several aspects of laboratory operation (testing, LIS, QC)
Basic computer skills including word and spreadsheet documents and LIS.
Neat and orderly work habits
Appropriate level of professionalism
May perform duties on evenings, nights, weekends, and/or holidays as required by the supervisor.
