The Laboratory Manager is responsible for the direction and supervision of all aspects of operations (technical /administrative) in the lab to align with the Laboratory Administrative Director.Supports the Laboratory Directorï¿½s plan to instruct and organize staff, and control the operation of the hospital clinical laboratory in accordance with hospital rules, regulations (CAP, CLIA, Joint Commission, OSHA, and HIPAA) and prevailing law. Will assume the duties of the Administrative Director in his/her absence.This requires exceptional customer service skills and will include a broad range of managerial duties.The manager is responsible for establishing and leading a culture of safety and overseeing quality improvement activities of all laboratory employees. Develops procedural protocols. Managers possess strong analytical skills and an understanding of scientific principles to perform various tests in the analysis of blood, body fluids and tissues as ordered by Healthcare personnel. Acts as a clinical resource to the general staff by providing leadership, direction and guidance.. Ensures training of new employees and students. Ensure competency of team on off shifts and re-educates as needed. Maintains equipment and supply inventory.Adheres to laboratory and hospital policies (i.e. attendance, continuing education, dress code, infection control, and patient confidentiality) and procedures. Maintains knowledge and practices current regulatory guidelines.Prepares and participates in processes relating to regulatory agencies such as Joint Commission, CAP and AABB. Follows best practice for infection control in accordance with hospital and regulatory guidelines.
Must possess the ability to: communicate effectively (orally and in writing), establish and accomplish objectives, function independently and under pressure, organize work to prevent delays, demonstrate critical thinking skills, and promote collaborative problem-solving both within the department and hospital-wide. Must have a working knowledge of laboratory concepts and applications, and all laboratory regulatory requirements..
MT (ASCP) or equivalent certification, baccalaureate degree in Chemical, Biological or Physical Science with 1 year training through an accredited medical technology program.
Minimum Experience:Minimum of 3 years of hospital experience as a Medical Technologist; 3 years of management experience; prefer 2 years experience as Laboratory Manager with hospital background.
Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses:Must meet CLIA 1988 regulations for general supervisor in a high complexity laboratory.
