The Department of Pathology at the University of Iowa Health Care is currently accepting applications for a Clinical Care/Specialized Services Supervisor opening. Basic duties: To ensure the smooth, efficient operation of a clinical laboratory unit or shift. Performs clinical laboratory analyses on biological specimens to provide information used in the diagnosis, prevention or treatment of disease. Many of these procedures involve numerous highly complex tests and techniques that require the use of professional judgment. This position will have responsibility for leading other laboratory professionals and continuously interacting and consulting with section management and other allied health care professionals.
This position will be scheduled for 8.0 hour shifts starting at 0300-0400 Monday – Friday with rotating on-call responsibilities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS - MLT:
A Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, biological, clinical laboratory science or medical technology program from an accredited college/university, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
One - three years clinical laboratory experience within the past five years is required.
One – three years of experience with high complexity testing is required for any position that will oversee a unit which performs high complexity testing.
**Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), or specialist certification in appropriate laboratory discipline from American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) from Health Education and Welfare (HEW) is required.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
Demonstrated leadership abilities and skills shown by successfully leading teams/groups in projects, work assignments, policy updates, etc. is required.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS - MLT:
Experience with validation and implementation of new testing or instruments.
Experience with laboratory inspection and accreditation activities.
Experience working in an academic health center.
Knowledge of and applied experience working with collective bargaining work rules.
Experience with personnel, team, or project management.
Experience developing and delivering laboratory sciences-based technical training.
Experience working with total laboratory automation.
Experience working with middleware.
Excellent documentation skills.
Additional Salary Information: Salary for this position starts at $50,012/year and will be commensurate with education and experience.
