The Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for accurate performance of laboratory tests that determine the presence, absence, or cause of disease. A Medical laboratory technician must be able to conduct a full range of laboratory tests, from the most routine to the most complex, under direct supervision. Medical Laboratory Technicians must be able to operate precision instruments and other complex laboratory equipment.
Associate M.L.T. required, or higher. ASCP or AMT preferred. Minimum 60 completed semester hours and ASCP or AMT certification may be accepted in lieu of associate’s degree; certification must be obtained within one year of hire. Competence in the full range of procedures reflecting appropriate patient care and knowledge for patient’s results ranging in the age from neonatal to geriatric is required.
