Working within the UCLA Olympic Analytical Laboratory, you will play a key role in achieving competitive integrity in amateur and professional athletics. You will do this by developing and applying such methodologies as gas chromatography / combustion / isotope ratio mass spectrometry (GC/C/IRMS) to detect the origin of endogenous steroids. Because of the high-profile nature of this work, we're looking to you to maintain a focus on sensitivity, selectivity and efficiency. You will be responsible for the optimization of sample preparation procedures, instrumentation, data analysis, validation of method performance and application to service samples and samples resulting from administration studies. You will share successful methodologies through conference presentations and peer-reviewed publications. You must have demonstrated the mastery of the technical aspects of isolation of steroids and other small molecules from biological matrices and analysis by HPLC, GC/MS and GC/C/IRMS.
We're seeking a flexible, independent, detail-oriented individual with:
Related research experience
In-depth knowledge of instrumental analysis by gas chromatography, liquid chromatography and isotope ratio mass spectrometry
Ability to operate all common laboratory equipment including, analytical balance, pH meter, SPE manifold, solvent evaporator, heating block, sonicator, manual and electronic pipetting devices Background with organic, biochemical and analytical chemistry techniques, including chemical derivatization, extraction, chromatographic separation and enzymatic deconjugation
Ability to precisely and accurately perform sample manipulations including aliquotting, solid-phase extraction, liquid-liquid extraction and chemical derivatization
Understanding of chemical, biological and general laboratory safety guidelines and principles
Computer proficiency with MS Office and specialized applications such as XCalibur, Isodat, ChemStation
Strong communication skills and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality
Willingness to work weekends and holidays
