This position is responsible for researching and providing accurate information to both internal and external clients, preparing pathology reports, filing reports, and maintaining any pertinent lab procedure manuals.
This position is practice focused with the objective of supporting the dermatopathologist(s).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide professional and administrative support to management and other staff, including physicians and pathologists using word processing, lab specific software, spreadsheets and other software to produce reports
Receive, sort and arrange incoming and outgoing pathology slides, blocks and accompanying paperwork/requisitions with a high degree of accuracy including matching correct paperwork to slides or blocks, filing slides accurately for long term storage, keeping track of individual cases amongst a high volume of specimens
Maintain laboratory procedure manuals in coordination with the lab director and lab supervisor
Ensure both physical and electronic protection, security and effective transfer of files and records, following HIPAA, safety and security policies
Communicate with physicians, clients and outside companies promptly and courteously
Answer and log phone inquiries using a professional and courteous manner and provide timely, efficient and accurate client service. Direct phone inquiries to the appropriate staff members
Research and reply to general information requests with accurate information in a timely and efficient manner
All other duties as assigned
Education and/or Experience Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent
Prefer at least one year laboratory or clerical experience in a medical office
Ability to work effectively with Microsoft Office Products and Electronic Medical Record, as well as additional laboratory specific software (Intellipath)
Knowledge of clinical policies and procedures.
Knowledge of fiscal management and human resource management policies and practices.
Knowledge of office management “day to day” operations, techniques and practices.
Skill in planning, organizing, delegating, and supervising and time management.
Skill in verbal and written communication.
Skill in establishing, defining, assigning, monitoring, and evaluating outcomes of assigned tasks and goals.
Ability to clearly communicate and apply policies and principles to solve everyday problems and deal with a complexity of situations.

Ability to competently use Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and appropriate practice management software, as well as, electronic health record software.
Light physical effort (lift/carry up to 10 lbs.). Frequent standing/walking. Occasionally lifts supplies/equipment. Manual dexterity and mobility. Occasional reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching.
Visual acuity and above average dexterity. Must be able to read 6 point font size accurately
Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
