As Clinical Laboratory Manager, incumbent is responsible for the department’s administrative functions such as scheduling, budgeting, employee evaluations and competencies, inventories, and other department and personnel issues.
The Clinical Laboratory Manger works closely on testing methodology and procedures, verification of testing, resolution of technical problems, QC issues, and other clinical/technical issues. This job is key in planning, leading, organizing and supporting of the activities and resources related to quality patient care, human resources, management and laboratory function. The manager also assumes responsibility for financial management of the laboratory cost centers assigned and has accountability for establishing and monitoring operating budgets.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Directs the development goals and objectives for the department. Establishes operating policies and procedures and controls to ensure an efficient organization. Ensures that all organizational activities and operations are carried out in compliance with local, state and federal regulations. The COLA standards and laws governing healthcare operations. Directs and supports performance improvement activities of the department. Establishing a QC program appropriate for the testing performed and establishing the parameter for acceptable levels of analytic performance and ensuring the levels are maintained throughout the entire process from initial receipt of the specimen, through the sample analysis and reporting of results. Maintains comprehensive knowledge of institutional/departmental policies and promotes consistent interpretation and adherence. Provides new policy information and updates to employees on a timely basis. Communicates with management regarding routine needs of the Laboratory. Assist in, or conduct, investigations of discrepancies to resolve problems with clients, and to inform management of required corrective action. Other related duties as required. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information. Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process. Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard. Demonstrates good judgement in performing duties and conflict resolution. Bachelor’s in Medical Technology, or chemical, physical or biological science.
Current MT or MLT licensure in the State of Louisiana.
Three to five years in relevant clinical laboratory supervisory or management experience.
