Located in Belleville, Clara Maass Medical Center is a facility of RWJBarnabas Health and provides a complete continuum of care to residents of northern New Jersey. We are currently looking for a Medical Laboratory Supervisor, who will report directly to Quest Diagnostics. Under the direction from Quest Diagnostic leadership, the incumbent will plan, organize, schedule, and direct the work of the section in order to effectively maximize employee, equipment, and material utilization within budgetary constraints, while adhering to quality technical standards. In addition, be responsible for providing the on-site supervision of specimen workflow, test performance, quality, compliance, and associated documentation necessary to adhere to the department and company policies and procedures. The incumbent will utilize the Laboratory Information System, as well as be responsible and accountable for the following duties:
Oversee staff and activities of the department, distributes/assigns work; determines priorities; schedules non-routine procedures; performs personnel related functions (hiring, firing, discipline, training, etc.).
Perform advanced/specialized tests and other related laboratory techniques. May duplicate work of others to confirm test results. Re-evaluates methodology, makes recommended changes and assists in test interpretation. Determines if further testing should be done on samples or if test should be repeated.
Review and approve all specialized and problem reports for accuracy.
Initiate quality-control measures and monitor quality of work for adherence to laboratory standards.
Perform the duties of a technologist, as necessitated by absence or peak workload.
Complete special projects, as requested (i.e. - surveys, statistical reports, studies, research, etc).
Perform related duties, as assigned.
Advanced in your knowledge of the concepts, principles and practices of medical technology to perform the full range of duties involved in planning, coordinating and evaluating laboratory services.
Aware of quality management standards.
Knowledgeable of accrediting agencies and regulatory requirements pertaining to laboratory operations.
Apt in laboratory quality control/assurance policies, procedures and principles, method validation, as well as safety practices and regulations.
Strong with interpersonal and communication skills.
Able to work professionally and cooperatively with patients, physicians, and other hospital staff members.
Skilled in making decisions, which have moderate impact on immediate work unit.
BS/BA degree in Medical Technology, or related field.
4 to 6 years as a Medical Technologist, or equivalent in a laboratory environment.
The ability to work possible weekends when needed.
