The Department of Pathology at the University of Iowa Health Care is currently accepting applications for an HC Svcs Supv/Assistant Mgr (Working title: Assistant Laboratory Manager). This position is responsible for: supervision of laboratory activities including personnel, procedures, compliance with regulatory agencies, troubleshooting and operational leadership of assigned responsibilities within the Anatomic Pathology section. Ensure the smooth, efficient operation of the laboratories by supervising the technical and operational functions of assigned responsibility areas. The assistant lab manager serves a primary role as operations supervisor and personnel coordinator of a large group of staff within the assigned responsibility areas. The assistant lab manager will consistently interact and consult with both the Pathology Operations Manager and laboratory director(s).
Interviews and oversees personnel
Evaluates staff performance
Provides clinical, technical, and managerial leadership information to staff
Communicates in a clear and effective manner
Maintains quality standards defined within job functions and quality initiatives
Oversees equipment quality control and preventive maintenance
Monitors computer reports, and in conjunction with lead scientists, monitors staff compliance with proficiency tests and competency tests
Oversees the leadership staff in the assigned responsibility areas to ensure the timely and appropriate completion and analysis of proficiency testing and the timely completion of competency testing as required
In conjunction with the Pathology Finance Manager and Operations Manager, assists with monitoring of the budget of the assigned responsibility areas, including overseeing the inventory of supplies, reagents, and expendables
Oversees the process for document management within the assigned responsibility areas
Performs other projects and tasks as required

A Bachelor's degree in a health care field or in medical laboratory science, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
3-5 years of clinical healthcare experience
A minimum of 2 years of experience directly supervising staff
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Prior experience working in a clinical laboratory setting
Prior experience as a manager in a health care setting
Prior experience working in an academic health center
Additional Salary Information: Minimum salary is $50,012 annually, however actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
