The University of Iowa Department of Pathology is seeking a Quality & Operational Improvement Engineer to assist with the coordination of services to maintain operational oversight of all Ancillary point-of-care testing sites and all areas outside of Pathology performing testing under Pathology’s CLIA certificate to facilitate quality testing outcomes. Assist with providing technical, informational and accreditation expertise to non-laboratorians performing laboratory tests in a variety of clinical situations.

A Master’s degree in a chemical, biological, physical or clinical laboratory science from an accredited institution, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
One (1) – three (3) years clinical laboratory experience is required
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
Valid Driver’s License, plus the ability to meet the University of Iowa Fleet Safety Program driving standards (University of Iowa Operations Manual Part V, Chapter 19) is required.
Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with effective leadership skills is required.
Demonstrated ability to work independently, to meet deadlines efficiently, to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and to be highly self-motivated is required.
Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or a categorical/specialist certification in a laboratory discipline from American Society for Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) is desired.
Experience with instrumentation validation, troubleshooting and maintenance is desired.
Knowledge of the regulations and accrediting standards of the following agencies: CMS, Joint Commission and/or CAP is required.
Additional Salary Information: Salary starts at $49,031 per year and will be commensurate with education and experience.
