Process tissue samples for microscopic examination including grossing, embedding, microtomy and cover slipping slides.
Performs QC on slides before sending to Pathologists.
Performs re-cuts requested by pathologist to help confirm diagnosis.
Prepares solutions and reagents, including chemical inventory.
Adheres to established QA/QC policies and procedures which includes documentation of routine maintenance and corrective actions of instruments and chemicals used in the histology lab.
Resolve procedural problems encountered in the daily workflow with a minimum of consultation.
Files paraffin blocks and microscopic slides
Must be able to troubleshoot areas of processing, embedding, cutting, and staining
Must have the capability of flexing schedule to accommodate workload
Assist in immunohistochemistry and special stains
Understands and follows ALL safety and OSHA guidelines
Respects and maintains the confidentiality of information relative to clients and patients
Strives to maintain a positive work environment and demonstrates interpersonal skills required to successfully perform as a team member in a fast-paced environment
An earned Associate degree in a chemical or biological science or medical laboratory technology, obtained from an accredited institution (Required)
Bachelor’s degree in a chemical or biological science or medical laboratory technology, obtained from an accredited institution (Preferred)
Histology: 1-year (Required) HT(ASCP) or HTL(ASCP) certified preferred or eligible for certification through on the job training.
Laboratory: 1 year (Required) If Bachelor's degree plus completion of NAACLS accredited histology program: No years of experience are required.
Must be able to successfully complete pre-employment background check and drug screen, EOE.

ASCP registered consulting medical technologists are available upon request for continuing education, seminars, in-service programs, mock laboratory inspections to aid laboratories in their preparation for CAP inspection, JCAHO inspection, and Medicare/State inspections.
