Providence is calling a Histotechnician 2 (1.0 FTE, Nights) to Providence Office Park in Portland, OR.
Schedule: Monday- Friday, 11:30pm- 8:00am
In this position you will:
Prepare microscopic tissue slides for diagnostic and/or research purpose, perform tissue stains to assist in diagnosis, handle specimen accessioning, and maintain laboratory and equipment under general supervision.
Accurately demonstrate the morphology of tissue specimens through knowledge of the basic pathologic conditions, skills in the use of precision equipment, and performance of special stains.
Have knowledge of biology, chemistry, anatomy, physiology and medical terminology which is essential for the professional histology technician.
Possess imperative characteristics such as attention to detail, good manual dexterity, and a concern for patient well-being.
Possess an understanding of the Providence Health and Services, and Oregon Regional Laboratory Services goals and strategies, including the Regional Laboratory Quality Policy.
The histology laboratory contributes a valuable service aiding pathologists in providing patient diagnoses. Information gained through microscopic evaluation of tissue slides prepared by histology technicians allows a pathologist to either identify or dismiss disease. The preparatory steps taken to ensure a quality diagnosis are key to this relationship.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist Technologist (HTL) American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification with Bachelor's degree: plus 1 years industry experience at an equivalent high volume or acute care laboratory performing high complexity testing
HT ASCP certification from accredited training program, or on-the-job training (OJT): plus 3 years industry experience at an equivalent high volume or acute care laboratory performing high complexity testing
