MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST
Southeast Georgia Health System,
Brunswick, Georgia
Full-Time Days (6am - 2:30pm) with occasional coverage for evening and night shift PTO.
Relocation assistance available! 

The professional we select for this important role will perform a wide variety of chemical microscopic and bacteriologic tests, procedures, and related activities. This individual will conduct proficiency testing in the same manner as patient samples, and exercise independent judgment to perform and report findings for clinical laboratory tests in order to obtain data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Additional responsibilities include: 

  • Actively participating in compliance of accreditation and regulatory standards (CAP, CLIA 88, and GDHR) related to all areas of the laboratory.
  • Assisting with special projects (including health fairs and correlations) and in the training of phlebotomists and MT/MLT students.
  • Using quality-control samples to verify accuracy and precision of test results in compliance with laboratory policies.
  • Following laboratory procedures for specimen collection, labeling handling, transport and processing.
  • Performing instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance.
  • Performing test procedures and identifying/correcting problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results.
  • Reporting and maintaining laboratory results using written procedures and policy guidelines.
  • Effectively operating computer systems and associated functions, including order entry, resulting, error correction, and applicable billing and auditing processes.

 

Required Credentials 

  • Bachelor's degree with Medical Technologist (MT) classification, OR associate of science degree with MT classification, OR MT classification as recognized by the Georgia Department of Human Resources (GDHR) laboratory licensure agency.
  • Completion of laboratory clinical rotation and licensure in one or more of the following areas: MT (ASCP), MT (AMT), CLT (HHS), or RMT (AAB).
  • New team members meeting education and experience requirements have 18 months from date of hire to complete the certification exam.
  • Demonstrated competence in skills and abilities related to laboratory testing.
  • Strong manual dexterity, multitasking skills, keyboarding ability, and clerical-support skills.
  • Ability and willingness to commit to service excellence, including the building of positive relationships with customers, team members, and medical staff; as well as ensuring the highest quality of care by performing responsibilities to the highest professional standards.
