You will serve as a Medical Technologist in the Laboratory Department of NAVHOSP GUAM. A clinical laboratory that provides clinical and anatomical pathology services to a 33-bed military hospital and the associated outpatient clinics.
You will perform routine diagnostic testing, and follows proper procedures without deviation
You will evaluate and monitor the performance of routine and specialized test procedures
You will conduct quality control procedures on equipment
You will use laboratory information systems to accession specimens
You will perform minimal phlebotomy and verifies correct labeling and patient identification
You will provide technical guidance to medical laboratory technicians

I have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study that included 12 months in a college or hospital-based medical technology program or medical technology school approved by a recognized accrediting organization. The professional medical technology curriculum may have consisted of a 1-year post- bachelor's certificate program or the last 1 or 2 years of a 4-year program of study culminating in a bachelor's in medical technology. OR
I have successfully completed a Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree from an accredited college/university, including 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of biological science (with one semester in microbiology), 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of chemistry (with one semester in organic or biochemistry), one semester (one quarter) of mathematics. In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of clinical laboratory experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 level or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector as a professional Medical Technologist. Specialized experience should demonstrate performing a variety of procedures including full spectrum of microbiology section plating, reading, and analysis; complex analysis and infrequently requested tests; evaluating abnormal results; using and maintaining quality control (QC) in the areas of, chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, serology, microbiology and blood bank; checking specimens for appropriateness; identifying technical/instrumental causes of problems; and providing technical guidance to others.
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. Completion of two years of progressively higher graduate education leading to a Masters degree or possession of a Masters or equivalent doctoral degree.
COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be combined to meet the total qualification requirements.
This position has selective placement factors that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factors are: 1) you must be certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), American Medical Technologists (AMT) or other board of registry deemed comparable by the Center for Clinical Laboratory Medicine (CCLM) as a medical technologist (MT) or medical laboratory scientist (MLS); or be a commissioned laboratory officer in the Military Services, and have earned a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; and have at least 3 years of laboratory experience in high complexity testing and be certified by the ASCP, AMT or other board of registry deemed comparable by CCLM as an MT or MLS; AND 2) meet minimal conditions to be certified under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Program in accordance with 42 CFR 493.1461. 3) Possession of Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers Certification.
