This position provides operational management for all areas of the laboratory to ensure superior proficiency in test results and analysis, quality control, and quality assurance, and compliance with pertinent regulatory agencies. This position oversees laboratory information systems and ensures that all functions of the laboratory are consistent with appropriate policies and procedures. This position assists in planning, directing, monitoring and evaluating laboratory services.
Creates a department-wide focus of performance improvement and quality management to ensure quality outcomes and patient safety. Maintains documentation, monitors results and initiates corrective action plans. Serves as a resource for laboratory quality and patient safety issues. Integrates comprehensive technical knowledge and clinical relevance into evaluation of quality and patient safety issues and identification of potential quality improvement projects.
Oversees the collection and compilation of system key indicator information including CAP proficiency testing, regulatory audits, etc and analyzes findings to recommend process improvements and ensure continued accreditation.
Oversees laboratory information systems and champions the use of technology throughout the department to continually enhance performance.
Supports technical supervisors with organization and continuous readiness regarding on site accreditation and certification processes and monitoring staff competency and proficiency.
In conjunction with the technical supervisors organizes and leads laboratory preparation for continuous readiness for on site accrediting and certification processes as well as monitors the competency and proficiency of staff.
Responsible for selection, orientation, on-boarding, retention and scheduling. Demonstrates leadership through coaching, performance evaluations, corrective actions, and development opportunities to create a culture of learning. Assists supervisory staff with employee performance and relations issues.
Assists with the development of operating and capital budgets and achievement of financial performance.
Baccalaureate degree (BA or BS) in Medical Technology or clinically related biological science.
Successful examination and registration as a Medical Technologist with ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologists) or equivalent.
3 -5 years supervisory experience as a Medical Technologist in a clinical hospital laboratory. Strong knowledge of automated laboratory systems, as well as Microsoft Office products. Must be able to communicate effectively in both oral and written formats.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
