Working under direct supervision, the Research Associate I performs a variety of routine experimental protocols and procedures to support the objectives of one or more laboratory research projects in a specific area of research. Assists in general laboratory activities, including maintenance of reagents and stocking of supplies. Files and monitors documents. Keeps accurate and detailed records of experiments and results. Assists in the operation of specialized equipment and machinery. Observes safety standards and procedures. The Research Assistant I will be able to perform routine cellular, micro- and molecular biology procedures including, but not limited to Western, Northern blot, DNA/RNA, PCR, protein extraction, cell culture, Immunohistochemistry, and staining. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Advanced Clinical BioSystems Research Institute (ACBRI) at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Heart Institute focuses on proteomics and disease-induced biomarkers studies. We perform experiments in cutting edge mass spectrometry applications in biomarker discoveries and validations. Our projects are on the development of and application of targeted protein quantification techniques for studying specific cellular pathways at the molecular level and for verification of protein candidate biomarkers for diagnosis, prognosis, and therapeutics from cells, tissues, and biofluids for heart diseases.
The ACBRI Research Associate I is a professional member of the laboratory staff who works with minimal supervision but closely with supervisor. The Research Associate I will perform both the routine and technically complex laboratory tests and non-repetitive complex procedures, which require advanced cognitive, manipulative and problem-solving skills. Activities include operating test equipment, monitoring and evaluation of the quality of testing, verifying and reporting test results. Additional duties include general and administrative support necessary for the routine operation of the laboratory.
Essential duties will include, but not limited to:

Responsibilities will include routine day to day activities in the lab following established protocols and using aseptic technique to perform routine tests.
Operate and maintain equipment.
Competence with standard and complex molecular biology techniques such as DNA and RNA extractions, genotyping, cloning, PCR)
The required skills are laboratory methods/techniques associated with molecular biology and (cell culture, ELISA, immunohistochemistry, gel electrophoresis,).
Basic experience in statistical analysis.
Comfortable with extracting, analyzing and manipulating data from large scale public and proprietary data repositories such as TCGA, OMIM, Ensembl, UCSC, dbSNP and ClinVar
Ability to write and/or assist in writing of manuscripts for publications and presentations
Ensuring-all safety guidelines are followed strictly and maintain a clean and orderly environment.
Abilities in regularly emphasizing deductive reasoning and critical thinking
Interacts with service engineers and scheduling maintenance for lab equipment
Interacts with lab members to design analysis methods for lab members and collaborating research groups.
Basic lab supply managing-ordering, organizing lab supplies and cleaning to ensure optimal instrument performance and productivity.
Perform QC procedures and maintain documentation for assay tracking, results for review and reporting.
Analyze clinical specimens and participation in assay improvements and enhancements.
Provides support to other lab members in instrument use.
Work with lab members to design workflow, procedures and work on method development
