Manages and coordinates the activities of the Clinical Laboratory Department. Develops, interprets, and applies departmental policies and procedures. Oversees the development and maintenance of quality laboratory testing services that meet the needs of the Mammoth Hospital Medical Staff and Clients. Supervises laboratory and Point of Care (POC) staff activities and oversees the quality and performance of laboratory testing procedures both in the main lab and at all POC sites directly and indirectly through CLS Coordinators, CLS and Lab Assistants.
Essential Job Duties:
Manages various personnel functions including, but not limited to hiring, training, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers, and schedules.
Effectively delegates projects, work assignments, and tasks to staff with clear expectations of the desired results, explanation of the available resources, clarification of accountability as work progresses, and clear guidelines to follow.
Monitors effective and productive use of time and optimal utilization of skills and resources.
Plans, researches, develops, and maintains departmental policies and procedures in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations and guidelines.
Monitors CLS Coordinators' compliance with proficiency testing response activities.
Oversees maintenance and review policies and procedures developed by department CLS Coordinators, LIS Coordinator, Safety Officer, Lab Assistants, Lab Receptionist and others.
Provides leadership in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) initiatives to the department by continuously assessing work processes, developing team-oriented solutions to problems, implementing changes, and evaluating the results. Conducts CQI efforts in cooperation with the Quality Improvement Coordinator and participates in interdepartmental CQI efforts involving the department. Maintains regular communication with senior management through written and verbal reports providing an overview of departmental activities, trends, goals, objectives, and important projects and plans.
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university required.
Graduate from an accredited School of Clinical Laboratory Science required.
State of California Clinical Laboratory Science License required.
Experience: Five years prior Clinical Laboratory experience required, with a minimum of 2 years in a Laboratory Supervisor or Laboratory Management position.
Advanced ability to work with computer systems and programs and knowledge of what they offer to healthcare and laboratories.
Ability to effectively communicate with patients and staff.
