The Department of Pathology at.the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) invites applications for the position of Director of Anatomic/Surgical Pathology. Applications from clinician-scientists are encouraged. This is a non-tenured, tenure track position offered at the Associate Professor or Professor Rank, commensurate with qualifications. The Director of Anatomic/Surgical Pathology serves on the Executive Management Committee of the Department of Pathology and will interface with the leadership at University of Illinois Medical Center at Chicago.
Duties: Direct the activities of Anatomic Pathology/Surgical Pathology, and provide consultation in evaluation and interpretation of surgical pathology procedures. Administration of anatomic and surgical pathology services.
I.Routine Duties and Responsibilities
Direct the activities of Anatomic Pathology and Surgical Pathology, and provide consultation in evaluation and interpretation of procedures done in this section.
Assist the Head in formulating and carrying out the policies for the day-to-day operation and quality of the anatomic and surgical pathology service including responsibility for meeting JCAHO and CAP accreditation.
Evaluate performance of employees reporting to this position.
Maintain excellence in surgical pathology service by continuous development of new and refinement of older techniques.
Ensure excellence in the instruction to residents, medical students, and postdoctoral fellows.
Participate in (or take responsibility for coordinating) specified curricula as designated by the Department Head.
Monitor as well as assist colleagues in thhe preparation and/or presentation of appropriate lectures and/or conferences.
Ensure appropriate anatomic/surgical pathology conferences are given.
Ensure appropriate in-service and CME programs for anatomic/surgical pathology employees are in place.
Perform and report basic and/or clinical research.
Cooperate with and assist ongoing research projects when deemed appropriate by providing specimens and appropriate data when feasible.
Collaborate with colleagues from other departments commensurate with subspecialty interest.
Participate in committees at the Department and College level as assigned by the Department Head.
Establish an effective working relationship with the Medical Staff, Hospital Administration and other departments regarding surgical pathology operations.
Participate in or take responsibility for special projects as specified by the Department Head.
Maintain current professional awareness in anatomic/surgical pathology through continuing education programs, scientific meetings, etc.
Participate in surgical pathology societies at local, state and national level.
An earned MD degree with specialty boards in Anatomic/Surgical Pathology
Illinois State License or qualified for licensure in Illinois.
Record of excellence in diagnostic anatomic pathology.
Track record in education and pathology research.
