Research Assistant II Core-VANTAGE
The research term professional will carry out the day-to-day flow of the lab under the direction of the Core Manager. Under minimal supervision, the term professional will execute molecular biology protocols including nucleic acid quantification, DNA/RNA next-generation library builds and high throughput sequencing and genotyping (array). Exercise discretion and independent judgment to optimize protocols and electronically track collected samples and data generated . Present and explain results to Core customers under manager's supervision. Assist in other core laboratory and research functions, which may include appropriately documenting and billing services provided.
Key Functions and Expected Performances:
Under minimal supervision, plan, conduct and evaluate experiments and assays of varying complexity
Electronically track collected samples
Understand, optimize, and follow experimental protocols
Record, compile, track, and report data
Analyze and interpret data
Assist in workflow design and problem solving
Provide training to new staff
Ensure laboratory is prepared for experiments
Maintain inventories and order reagents
Maintain sterile conditions as required
Maintain the instrument/equipment used for services provided by the core
Read and follow all equipment manuals
Maintain and repair equipment according to established guidelines
Provide training to researchers in instrument/equipment operation
Troubleshoots instrument/equipment problems
May utilize the CORES system for documenting services provided and to ensure services are appropriately billed to clients
Accurately compile information for monthly billing.
Invoices clients for services utilizing CORES.
This position requires a Bachelors degree in a scientifically related field and laboratory experience in molecular techniques such as DNA/RNA extraction and quantification, conventional polymerase chain reaction (PCR), quantitative real-time PCR, cloning and mutagenesis and quantitative reverse transcription PCR (qRT-PCR) or other nucleic acid manipulation. Next-generation sequencing experience is a plus. Facility with both spoken and written English is necessary.
