POSITION OVERVIEW: The Laboratory Chemistry Technical Supervisor at St. Charles Health System ensures and maintains service quality in all phases of testing in one or more laboratory technical disciplines across multiple laboratory sites within the St. Charles Health System. This position directly manages caregivers in Medical Lab Scientist, Medical Lab Technician, Lab Coordinator, and Technical Lab Assistant roles.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
Actively and cooperatively participate as a member of the laboratory leadership team to maintain safe, efficient, and compliant St. Charles Health System operations and services.
Perform the duties and functions of a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technician.
Monitor the accuracy, quality and timeliness of services provided in one or more technical disciplines and ensure that service performance goals are achieved. Ensure that services are performed and delivered in compliance with all regulatory, legal and organizational requirements.
Perform personnel supervisory functions including coaching, education, staff development, competency assessment and annual evaluations. Monitor, oversee and adjust staffing to ensure safe and efficient departmental operations.
Assist with capital requests, workflow planning, and evaluation/analysis of new tests or instruments.
Responsible for coordinating new caregiver orientation, training and initial competency assessment.
Provide technical consultation, education, and decision support for technical staff, clinicians, clients and customers throughout the St. Charles Health System.
Own and maintain applicable procedures, quality system records, proficiency testing records, and Laboratory Information System (LIS) tables.
Responsible for budget development, regular monitoring, accountability and meeting all operational targets for all areas within span of control
Hires, directs, coaches and monitors the performance of all direct reports, to develop and maintain a high performance team that meets organizational and department goals
Monitors and ensure all direct reports are current with compliance and safety requirements. Implements and manages all organizational safety directives and goals
Provides and oversees team’s delivery of customer service in a manner that promotes goodwill, is timely, efficient and accurate.
Collaborates with teams to review processes and identify/implement opportunities for improvements, applying Value Improvement Practice concepts and tools.

Required: Bachelors, Masters or Doctoral degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science from an accredited college or university.
Required: Certification at the Scientist/Technologist level MT/MLS (ASCP), CLS, or equivalent.
Required: Four years of clinical laboratory experience.
Must demonstrate above average judgment, discretion, critical thinking, and technical skill.
Preferred: Two years in a laboratory leadership position.

Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.
