The Department of Pathology at the University of Iowa Health Care is currently accepting applications for Medical Laboratory Technician/Medical Laboratory Scientist openings. This is an excellent opportunity for qualified individuals seeking to work in a fast paced learning environment within our Tissue and Cellular Therapies Laboratory in DeGowin Blood Center.
Performs a variety of laboratory procedures in tissue bank and Hematopoietic Progenitor Cell Lab with many involving numerous steps and techniques that require the use of professional judgment.
These positions are full time (100%) positions, Eight-hour shifts rotating between 6:30 am and 5:30 pm, with occasional coverage past 5:30 pm as needed, Monday through Friday with rotating Saturday shifts and rotating Sunday and holiday on-call coverage.

MLT: Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology program from an accredited institution, OR Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or eligible from American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or National Credentialing Agency (NCA), OR successfully completed an official US military medical laboratory procedures training course of at least 50 weeks duration and have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician) is required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. Certification from American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or National Credentialing Agency (NCA) as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) is highly desirable.
MLS: A Bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology program from an accredited institution. Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or a categorical/specialist certification in the appropriate laboratory discipline from American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) from Health Education and Welfare (HEW) is required. Six (6) months – one (1) year clinical laboratory experience, which may include program training experience, is required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
Additional Salary Information: These positions will be filled as either a Medical Laboratory Technician (salaries for 100% MLT starts at $41,970 to commensurate) or as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (salaries for 100% MLS starts at $45,372 to commensurate), based on the selected candidate's qualifications.
