Beaumont Health, Michigan's largest health system, invites applications and nominations for the position of Vice President, Beaumont Laboratory. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced laboratory operations executive to unify laboratory services across the entire enterprise. Working in concert with the directors of each laboratory, the Vice President will oversee the system's pathology and laboratory services across eight hospitals housing 3,429 beds and 168 outpatient sites. Formed as a non-profit health system in 2014 through the merger of three other distinct health systems in Southeast Michigan, Beaumont Health posted revenue last year of $4.1B. With an established reputation for providing extraordinary, compassionate patient and family centered care throughout the region, the Vice President will further integrate and standardize laboratory services in an efficient and cost effective manner that is in alignment with Beaumont's clinical, research, education and outreach mission.
Reporting directly to the Executive Vice President, Post Acute Care Division and working in close collaboration with the Chief, Pathology Service Line, the VP will be responsible for the operational management of all aspects of the laboratory system, supported by staff of 1,600 FTEs. As such, the VP will implement strategic planning initiatives, oversee financial performance, budget preparation and development, ensure quality assurance, and compliance in coordination with other service lines and departments. In keeping with Beaumont Health's long-standing commitment to excellence in patient care, the VP will further align laboratory services toward that end by employing best practices. To do so, the VP will develop and implement initiatives that ensure the continued growth of market share and clinical integration for Beaumont Laboratory, which currently provides services for 5,500 physicians within the clinically integrated network.
The next VP will be a forward thinking and collaborative leader with solid technical skills coupled with a strong business and financial acumen and commitment to best practices within laboratory services. The successful candidate will be an effective leader capable of responding to and addressing the needs of senior leaders, clinicians, and administrators. With a proven track record of assessing current state and mapping out a strategic plan aimed at creating economies of scale and greater efficiency, the Vice President will meet the needs of this growing healthcare system with a large outreach component. S/he will bring prior experience and tested skills in consolidating and integrating laboratory services within a large, complex multi-site health system, academic medical center, or reference laboratory. This includes collaborating with the performance improvement teams in the application of lean methodologies, including Kaizen techniques, in order to optimize patient specimen throughput both on an inpatient and outpatient basis.
Successful candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in laboratory science, medical technology, or other related field along with strong leadership and operations experience within a large complex health system, academic medical center, or reference laboratory. A Master's degree and/or ASCP Laboratory Science certification is strongly preferred. A minimum of five years of laboratory management and leadership experience is required as are proven leadership, customer service, and employee engagement skills. Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to build and maintain positive relationship with key stakeholders is essential while in-depth knowledge of current laboratory accreditation certification procedures is critical.
