Delivers and accurately documents a planned course of radiation on specific treatment equipment following the prescription of the Radiation Oncologist.
Verifies the mathematical accuracy of the prescription, calculates treatment times and accurately sets treatment parameters on the control console.
Prepares room and equipment for patient according to particular setup, ie. field size, beam blocks or MLC, beam wedges, immobilization devices and tests the integrity of treatment accessories and devices before use.
Collaborates with the oncology nurses in monitoring the clinical progress of the patient undergoing radiation therapy for signs of any complications and/or side effects.
Detects equipment malfunctions and reports to the supervisor or director and physicist. Knows the safe limits of equipment operation with special attention to radiation safety rules and regulations.
Participates in patient education procedures, instructs and counsels patients in simulation, first treatment, expectations, side effects, skin markings, portal imaging, etc.
Simulates and assists in planning a course of treatment, acquires accurate and precise measurements of treatment volume and calculation depths, performs calculations to determine treatment time, determines and localizes treatment volume utilizing simulator equipment.
Constructs immobilization and beam – directional devices.
Maintains daily record and documents technical details of treatment administered. Ensures accuracy and completeness of patient treatment records.
Participates in Quality Control/ Assurance as indicated to improve patient care.
Obtains port films as directed and reviews patient charts for accuracy at least weekly.
Maintains appropriate skills to assess and care for patients of all ages, meeting minimum standards for Illinois licensure.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Graduate of an accredited radiation therapy program. Bachelor’s Degree or an Associate’s Degree with a minimum of 4 years of experience.
Knowledge of use and care of therapeutic radiation equipment
Knowledge of principles of clinical radiation therapy.
Radiation Therapist License (IEMA License) – Required
Provides evidence of registration or eligible as RT (T) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) as a Radiation Therapy Technician (RTT).
Maintains standing in ARRT.
Physical ability to perform functional requirements as needed.
