The Department of Laboratory Medicine is seeking a hematopathologist or clinical pathologist with experience in hematology laboratory leadership to join seven other hematopathologists in a progressive, system-wide hematology-coagulation laboratory team for the Geisinger Health System. The position is available immediately, and based at our new, state-of-the-art central laboratory in Danville, PA.
The successful candidate will lead innovation in hematology laboratory services, and have system responsibility for best practice teams in core and subspecialty hematology areas. The hematopathology director will coordinate testing harmonization and standardization at seven hospital laboratories, eight regional laboratories and the central reference laboratory. Expertise in automated hematology instrumentation, coagulation and platelet function, six sigma quality control, laboratory administration, genomic hematology or other area is desirable. The central laboratory has 155 technologists and performs more than 5,000,000 tests annually. Teaching programs in hematology include pathology fellows, hematology-oncology residents and fellows, med students, phlebotomy, and others.
The Geisinger Health System is an integrated delivery system with a fully implemented electronic health record that has a history of applying new technologies and ACO approaches to clinical care. Advanced IT resources support clinical and outcomes-based research. Geisinger is home to one of the best annotated biobanks in the nation with over 100,000 specimens. The Laboratory Medicine department includes 32 pathologists and PhD's, twelve of whom are active in CP responsibilities. Clinical research is encouraged.
An MD/DO with AP/CP, CP-only and Hematopathology board certification or eligibility is required. Experience directing a hematology laboratory and a background that includes teaching, research, and system leadership is also required.
