The laboratory of Dr. Jalees Rehman at the University of Illinois at Chicago (http://mcph.uic.edu/rehman/) is seeking to fill a Research Assistant Professor position in the areas of neurobiology and neurovascular biology. One of the main goals of the Rehman laboratory’s research program is to understand the role of the brain vasculature in neurodegenerative disease and neuroinflammation. All candidates must have a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in the biological or biomedical sciences, as well as experience working in two or more of the following areas: 1) neurovascular biology, 2) neurobiology, 3) epigenetics and transcriptional regulation, 4) engineering of organoids derived from human pluripotent stem cells, 5) animal models of neurological disease and 6) computational biology.
All candidates must have at least two first-author original research articles accepted for publication in leading peer-reviewed journals. The successful applicant will develop a research project studying blood-brain barrier function and in vivo models of neurodegenerative disease. Potential research projects could include studying the role of vascular permeability in Alzheimer’s disease, investigating the role of neurovascular injury and inflammation in the progression of neurodegenerative disorders, or using organoids to model the neuro-vascular interface. The position is ideally suited for an enthusiastic scientist who wants to pursue a career in academic research and develop expertise in multidisciplinary research.
Our institution offers a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment with close interaction with other basic and clinical scientists. The laboratory of Dr. Rehman is part of the Department of Medicine, the Department of Pharmacology, the Department of Bioengineering and the UIC Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Center. All laboratory members have access to state-of-the-art research equipment including super-resolution microscopy and single cell sequencing which enable our researchers to conduct high-impact work and significantly advance the field.
Minimum degree and field of knowledge: PhD, MD or equivalent doctoral degree in neurobiology, vascular biology, bioengineering, stem cell biology, molecular biology, cell biology, computational biology, or a related field. An ideal candidate would have extensive experience in neurobiology or neurovascular biology, animal models of neurological disease as well as expertise in the use of confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, and molecular biology (qPCR, cloning, immunoprecipitation, western blotting). Expertise in epigenetics, stem cell biology and high throughput sequencing (ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, DNA methylation, RNA-seq) would be very valuable.
Salary will be commensurate with relevant experience and is competitive for Research Assistant Professors.
